Main Franconia is always going to be wine \u00adcountry, colloquially known as \u201cWein\u00adfranken\u201d. This is not a clich\u00e9, but is simply calling a \u00adspade a spade. Wine feels at home in Main Franconia \u00adbecause the region has the best conditions: fer\u00adtile soils with strong characteristics, a mild climate and quality-conscious, innovative winemakers \u2013 the Franconian wine country is firmly established as one of the best German \u00adwinegrowing regions. A good bottle of wine is therefore an integral item on the region\u2019s menu. And this offers gourmets plenty of opportunities to enjoy culinary treats all year round. Each season sets the table in its own way, each season captures the delight of what \u00admakes it so special. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Franconian asparagus, for example, is the royal entr\u00e9e to the \u00adculinary year in spring, served not only with fine tenderloin, but preferably in typical Franconian style with Bratwurst \u00adsausages! As soon as the sun\u2019s rays warm the pastures in the Rh\u00f6n bio\u00adsphere reserve and the grass starts growing again, the shepherds set off with their animals. The lambs enjoy the fresh herbs, which in turn makes their meat extremely tender and flavourful. Summer and autumn is the time for fruits, whose flavour is also \u00adcaptured by many distilleries in the Spessart and Steigerwald \u2013 be it pears or quince, plums or mirabelle plums. And from September to April, the carp from Franconia\u2019s lakes and pond is in season, whether it is served classically as \u201cblue\u201d poached carp or \u00adinterpreted in a modern way, for example as a fillet in a \u00adcrispy \u00admuesli crust. And the range of game meats in combina\u00adtion with local mushrooms also attracts locals and tourists alike to restaurants. This wealth of local \u00adingredients also explains why the Franconian people often prefer lamb from Rh\u00f6n over \u00adlobster from the Atlantic, trout and carp from their own fish farm over swordfish, blootz (a Franconian speciality) over pizza and, of course, the famous \u201cSchlachtsch\u00fcssel\u201d in Schweinfurt. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Gourmets and gourmands in Main Franconia are therefore not only attracted to restaurants awarded with a Michelin star or a Bib Gourmand. The \u201cPhilipp\u201d restaurant in Sommerhausen, for example, received its 20th Michelin star in a row in 2023, and the \u201cLaudensack\u201d restaurant in Bad Kissingen even its 30th star in a row. With \u201cKuno 1408\u201d in W\u00fcrzburg and \u201cWeinstock\u201d in Volkach, Main Franconia currently has a total of four Michelin-starred restaurants. Gourmets will also find plenty of oppor\u00adtunities to sample dishes in the \u201cmature bull with chocolate parsnip\u201d or \u201cchestnuts in orange stock\u201d category in Main Franconia. <\/p>\n

The Convivium Mainfranken-Hohenlohe regional group tra\u00additionally contributes most recommendations to the Slow Food Guide for Germany, currently 25 restaurants. But in many \u00adcharming communities between the Main and upland areas, people cultivate and appreciate an authentic culinary tradi\u00adtion, and so locals and holidaymakers alike are drawn above all to the wealth of Franconian country inns, where Franconian \u201cSauerbraten with gingerbread sauce\u201d or \u201cKrenfleisch\u201d \u2013 boiled beef with horseradish \u2013 grace almost every menu. And where an \u00adabsolute must is a \u201cSch\u00e4ufele\u201d, a slow-cooked, strongly seasoned shoulder of pork, with a crispy crust on the outside and so \u00adbuttery soft on the inside that the meat almost melts off the bone. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Conclusion: the scenic region between Spessart in the west, Rh\u00f6n in the north and Steigerwald in the east also has the \u00adnecessary culinary \u201cingredients\u201d to turn a stay into an experience in any season. However, it is regrettable that not only the pandemic, but above all the staff shortage that is also rampant in this industry have clearly left their mark. Quite a few establishments have restricted opening hours, can no longer open at lunchtime during the week or serve all the seats that are theoretically available. But the Franconian people are not only flexible, funny, cheerful and know how to enjoy themselves, they always find a way to satisfy their hunger and thirst properly. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
