Sustainability is not a new topic \u2013 but it is very topical. Societal challenges such as climate change, scarcity of resources, demographic development, but also digitalisation and the increasingly \u00adinterconnected world are emphatically bringing the question of the economy\u2019s responsibility into focus. This is because answers to the megatrends of our time can only be found together with the econ\u00adomy. <\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

When we talk about sustainability \u2013 or Corporate \u00adSocial Responsibility (CSR) \u2013 we mean a company\u2019s responsibility for society as a result of its own actions. In order to act sustainably, a company must take into account, for example in the CSR core elements of the ecology, the economy, the workplace or the com\u00admunity, what impact its actions have on the company itself, but also, for example, on \u00adinterest groups such as employees, suppliers or customers. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Some companies are also organising a \u201cYear of Sustainability\u201d during which they are once again intensifying their efforts in this area, such as Pabst Transport GmbH & Co. KG. In the 2022 Year of Sustainability alone, the company was able to save almost one million litres of water, 200,000 pages of paper, 1.3 million litres of diesel, 100,000 kWh of electricity and 1,000 tonnes of CO2. All too often, when we talk about sustainability, we come \u00adacross comments such as \u201cI don\u2019t have time for that now, I\u2019ll do it \u00adlater. Today I have to generate sales\u201d, or \u201cprofits and climate action \u2013 it\u2019s either one or the other!\u201d And this is precisely the \u00adhurdle that still needs to be overcome in too many minds far removed from the economy, and that needs to be overcome sustainably in the truest sense of the word. Sustain\u00adability and corporate success are two sides of the same coin! \u00adCor\u00adporate success and having a \u00adpositive impact as a company go hand in hand. A \u00adsupposed trade-off between sustainability and business success has long been an outdated concept. On the one hand, regulatory \u00admeasures en\u00adsure that \u00adalmost all companies have to include sustainability aspects in their business operations in the medium term (for example in the Act on Corporate Due Diligence \u00adObli\u00adgations in Supply Chains or the regulations \u00adconcerning \u00adsustainable \u00adfinance); on the other hand, the behaviour of market par\u00adticipants ensures that companies recognise of their own \u00adaccord that they have to focus on different CSR activities, whether it is in recruiting \u00ademployees or selling on the consumer goods and services markets. However, we must succeed in mainstreaming this idea that corporate success and sustainability are two sides of the same coin. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

It is gratifying that the economy in Main Franconia has long \u00adrecognised that corporate success and sustainability are \u00adpretty much the same thing. Not only is the guiding principle of \u00adsocially responsible business people and traders\u00ad a guarantee of success for the companies and the region \u2013 as the latest CIC \u00adlocation report in Main Franconia shows the many positive \u00adexamples of successful sustainable businesses also speak for themselves. In \u00adrecent years, for example, there have been a number of award winners from Main Fran\u00adconia who have been honoured as part of re\u00adgional competitions such as the Region Mainfranken GmbH Sustain\u00adability Award. Examples are also regularly \u00adfeatured in the CIC magazine \u201cWirtschaft in Mainfranken\u201d. \u00adNevertheless, much more transparency should be created in order to illus\u00adtrate, with as many company examples as possible, that the guiding prin\u00adciple of socially responsible business \u00adpeople and traders \u00adis originally planted in the SMEs\u2019 own \u201cDNA\u201d in particular. This must not be some kind of \u00adgreenwashing, i.e. \u00admerely commu\u00adnicating sus\u00adtainable action \u00adwithout substance, but \u00adsimply about highlighting all the \u00adpositive approaches we \u00adal\u00adready have. The CIC is trying to create visibility for sus\u00adtainable \u00adentre\u00adpreneurship through the initiative Verantwortungsregion Main\u00adfranken, which was ini\u00adtiated in 2018 together with the Chamber of Crafts for Lower Franconia, the University of W\u00fcrzburg and the W\u00fcrzburg-Schweinfurt University of \u00adApplied \u00adSciences (THWS) as well as Region Mainfranken GmbH; with success. It is not least the \u00adcooperation with universities that is \u00adstrengthen\u00ading the socio-\u00adpolitical and business campaign to \u00adovercome the supposed trade-offs between business success and sustainability. <\/p>\n

And there is one final point to bear in mind: good examples en\u00adcourage emulation. When we talk about how we can inspire more young \u00adpeople to become entrepreneurs and self-employed, we are also using the \u00adpositive drive demonstrably rooted in \u00adgenerations Y and Z (and \u00adbeyond) to make the world a bit \u00adbetter, and also to improve the start-up \u00addynamics in this country. What could be more obvious than to meet society\u2019s challenges, for example, as climate change is for Main \u00adFranconia too, on the ground with entrepreneurial ideas and innovations? <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
